נאכאמאל: שרייב ארויס פונקליך וואס דו דארפסט.
דיסקלעמער: פאר ריכטיגע עדווייס איז ראטזאם זיך צו ווענדן פערזענליך צו א מומחה.

OK!

Step 1 you did. You know what you want!

Before anything, trust me on this one. There is going to be a lot of details that you will forget to write down and hate yourself later. So get organized! I for one, keep everything in a spreadsheet. So start by saving everything! Usernames, passwords, customer numbers, etc.

1)

In a nutshell, you will need a “domain name”, then “hosting” and then “the website”.
Go to GoDaddy.com and create an account. Again, make sure to save your username, company name, email provided, etc. Then register a domain name. The domain is your own address on the internet. Example: http://www.ivelt.com belongs to ivelt. Monseyguide.com belongs to me. I “purchased” it. It is like I buy a slice of bread. Later, I can decide if I want to toast it, put some jam on it or even sell it.

You will have options to pay for 1 year, 2 years, 10 years, etc. If you really find a good name, make sure to pay as much as you can for future years. Like this, you don’t lose the name if you forget to pay for the renewal.

Also, in the past, everyone wanted either:
.com for most companies (stands for commercial)
.gov for government webstites
.org for organizations (think, American Red Cross, RCCS, etc).

Now days, more and more extensions are becoming more popular. Especially, that the .com subdomain almost has no more names available. In the past, having a .net or .info was a shame. But these days, they are becoming more acceptable. Don’t pay thousands for a .com. Some of the newer extensions now include .info, .co, .us, and much more.

K… ‘nuf on the domains. For more info, maybe someone should create it’s own thread.

2)

Now, you will need “Hosting”. What is hosting? To answer the question, first let’s ask another one. What is the Internet? Answer, lot’s of computers connected together. So thecnically, you can save your designed website in HTML format (don’t worry if you don’t understand HTML. It stands for Hyper Text Makeup Language, a program used to display content in web browsers) on your own computer. Connect it to the internet and everyone can have access… But… It will be very slow, hackers will break your computer, etc. So how do you put your website on the internet? You order a service from a company that has HUGE computers connected to the internet. So in essence, the are going to “Host” your website on their mega computer. You will pay them a monthly fee (usually paid annually) to rent a little piece of their server. They will give you a little piece of their computer. They will also give you the IP address for that little piece of computer. The IP address is like the virtual address to find your machine. Where should you get the hosting? I suggest “Hostgator”. Why? Very easy to deal with. Order the cheapest plan called “Hatchling”.

3)

Go back to “Go Daddy” and tell them where to point your domain name. Give them the IP address you got from Hostgator. Now, when someone puts in your domain name in their browser, it will be directed to your server on Hostgator.

4)

Go back to “Hostgator”, login to your cPanel and install “Wordpress”. Wordpress is the program you most likely will use for your website. You can also order from Hostgator “Wordpress” only hosting where you will not get a cPanel.

4)

x Once Wordpress is installed, add a plugin called https://woocommerce.com/. This let’s you add products like a catalog. You will first create “Categories” (cookies, candies, cakes). You can then add products (inside cookies, our famous chocolate chip cookie that melts in your mouth).

Wordpress and WooCommerce are both free. But you can buy nice themes to change the look.

There are much more details. I’m asking for all the experts not to bash me… I’m using terms for the person that is just starting out. Example: I know that he hatchling plan does not give you your own server. It is “shared”. But for the sake of simplicity, I’m not going into details.

I think you have here more than enough homework to get started.
